School Consultation & Evaluation Services

Lotus will collaborate with school personnel to evaluate and design behavioral and special education individualized programs. As a consultant to many Connecticut school districts, Lotus provides on-site training for school personnel to implement behavioral modification programs, beginning with functional assessments and tiered level systems for the most difficult behavior problems. Lotus also offers on-site training on child and adolescent developmental and behavioral problems. Previous seminar topics have included classroom behavior management, adolescent & childhood development, best teaching practices, developmentally appropriate assessment and goal planning, and accountable data taking practices. Services may also include review of current behavioral concerns & supporting data in order to review or revise current behavioral plans.

Developmental Assessment, Educational Planning, & Program Books

Services will focus on working with teachers in conducting initial developmental and quarterly evaluations in order to inform educational programming, and an ABA treatment plan.

  • Results from initial and updated assessments will be shared with parents and the school based team on at least a quarterly basis.
  • Additional evaluations may be conducted based on requests from the educational team, or prior to a transition period. 
  • Results from evaluations will be used to create, and maintain ABA-based program books and or naturalistic teaching procedures.
    • Data will be taken on a daily basis and summed on a weekly basis in order to inform educational programming. 
    • Summary data will be reviewed with immediate supports on a weekly basis to maintain communication and collaboration across services providers and immediate implementers. 

Behavioral Assessments 

Services will focus on working with teachers in conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) to inform Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP). 

  • Results from behavioral assessments will be shared with parents, and used to inform BIP goals and objectives. 
  • Per student need, continuous data collection of targeted behaviors of concern will be conducted and maintained over time to ensure behavioral progress. 
  • Results from data collection procedures will be shared with parents and the school based team on at least a quarterly basis.

Behavior Intervention Planning

Services will focus on creating a child-based Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) based on the results of an (FBA). 

  • The treatment plan will structure antecedent and consequence based strategies that are skill based, functionally equivalent, and non-aversive.
  • The treatment plan will only include strategies that adhere to the ethical guidelines as set forth by the Connecticut Board of Education and Behavior Analyst Certification Board for Responsible Conduct. 
  • The treatment plan will be shared with the school team and parents prior to implementation. Staff and Parent feedback will be greatly considered when choosing appropriate intervention strategies. 

Parent & Family Support

Services will focus on working with parents in order to help generalize skills or behavior intervention strategies across the home-school environment.

  • This includes additional review of developmental or behavioral assessments.
  • This includes providing training on basic ABA principals to teach essential developmental skills.
  • This includes providing training on basic ABA behavioral strategies to encourage positive behavioral change across all environments. 

Collaborative Team Approach

Services will focus on working within and helping to support a multidisciplinary team.

  • Per child being served, a meeting should be conducted at least once per month where in related services providers and immediate support staff can meet to review progress and or concerns.
  • Collaboration should occur on a continuous basis to help inform best practices per-student need. 
  • Per client request, management strategies can be applied to help organize the multidisciplinary team to ensure continued communication, collaboration, and consistent implementation of services. 

District & Service Provider ABA Training

In addition to direct support, BCBA services also include ongoing training, and consultation in the principals of applied behavior analysis as they pertain to the treatment plan with family, educators, and related service providers. 

  • Training will support learning the developmental assessment process and developmental report writing.
  • Training will support behavioral assessment, writing of BIPs, and implementing BIPs.
  • Training will support teachers in being able to have the skills necessary to train, and monitor direct care staff working with their students. 
  • Training will support data taking, and valid measurement systems.
